Taxation (Annual Rates, Maori Organisations, Taxpayer Compliance and Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill

The Finance and Expenditure Committee is inviting public submissions on the Taxation (Annual Rates, Maori Organisations, Taxpayer Compliance and Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill. The closing date for submissions is 28 June 2002.

The bill contains amendments arising from the Government discussion documents Taxation of Maori organisations and Taxpayer compliance, standards and penalties: a review.

The bill also allows taxpayers to pool provisional tax payments with other taxpayers; allows employers to transfer the bulk of their PAYE obligations to intermediaries; makes changes regarding the taxation of charities; clarifies the interaction of depreciation and amalgamation rules; clarifies the GST treatment of supplies of telecommunications services and international passenger cruises; and makes a number of other changes to the tax regime.

The bill also confirms the annual income tax rates for the 2002-03 income year.

Copies of the bill can be purchased from Bennetts Government Bookshops.

The committee requires 25 copies of each submission. Those wishing to include any information of a private or personal nature in a submission should first discuss this with the clerk of the committee, as submissions are usually released to the public by the committee. Those wishing to appear before the committee to speak to their submissions should state this clearly and provide a daytime telephone contact number.
