What we do
Inland Revenue's Policy and Strategy area (previously the Policy Advice Division), jointly with the Treasury:
- advises the New Zealand Government on all aspects of tax law changes and social policy measures that interact with the tax system
- drafts tax legislation
- negotiates, interprets and maintains New Zealand's network of double tax agreements with other countries
Since 1995, tax policy has been developed using the Generic Tax Policy Process. This is a process designed to ensure better, more effective tax policy development through early consideration of all aspects – and likely impacts – of proposals, and increased opportunities for public consultation.
Inland Revenue has responsibility for, or a major role in, seven regulatory systems.
From time to time, we have positions available for New-Zealand-resident graduates, and for experienced economists, lawyers and tax professionals.
