Bad debts

The writing off of bad debts throughout the year rather than at year end is a possibility within the software. Do you currently adjust for these during the year? What changes to your software would assist you with making this adjustment?

We usually write- off bad debts as they occur, with a final wash-up at year end

Only adjust for bad debt at year end, so if it were flexible I would use that system.

This would probably be a trickier one for us as we don't necessarily wipe off bad debts in a timely fashion to the fact that our projects can be ongoing for several years - this means that clients can sometimes pay months after a payment is technically due.

Bad debts not a big issue for us but we would write these off as they occur

I don't adjust during the year and don't need to change that.

Bad debts (if any) are written off as we go so there would be no problem with this.

We have few bad debts and they are written off at the end of the year at present. I don't see a major problem with doing it more often. Of course it can take a long time to finish the debt recovery effort.

We write off bad debts as they occur, with a comprehensive review at year-end.

No effect as we rarely have bad debts. Stay on top of debtors and credit control and there isn't a problem.

I think these should still be handled at the end of the year. we don'thave many bad debts, so that might be only ok for us. I think that it sometimes takes so long to actually get to the point where you make it a bad debt, that once a year is a good place to do it.

We adjust regularly as the majority of our income is paid via credit card and we know promptly if we have go a dud.

This is done once a year at year end - a simple way of dealing with it.

So far I have never had any, though one large debtor came close one year.

We write off bad debt at the end of the year. Not sure we would write off during the year there is always a chance it can be paid.

Hi It would be fairly simple to have the software move debtors way past 90 days to provision for doubtful debts and then have it move it to bad debts after the required time frame has lapsed. With Auto reminders turned on the other requirement - reasonable effort made to pursue debtor would be met. Believe this whole area could be automated.
