The Minister of Revenue announced today the details of a conference to be held on 12 and 13 June which will focus on the simplification of New Zealand’s tax administration. The conference is being hosted jointly by Victoria University of Wellington, Inland Revenue and the Treasury. For more information, please see the Minister’s media statement.

The Finance and Expenditure Committee has reported back to Parliament on the Taxation (Annual Rates, Employee Allowances, and Remedial Matters) Bill which was introduced on 22 November 2013. For more information see the bill as reported back and the officials' report on submissions received.

As part of the recently enacted Taxation (Annual Rates, Foreign Superannuation, and Remedial Matters) Act 2014, changes have been made to the taxation of interests in foreign superannuation schemes held by New Zealand residents. The financial reporting obligations for a number of medium-sized companies has been simplified following the passage of the Financial Reporting Act. An Order in Council was made this week that specifies for tax purposes the minimum financial reporting requirements for companies.
